American soprano Colleen McGrath has been called
“an ominously alluring and vocally superb Queen
of the Night” – a role she has performed many
times. She has also appeared as Gilda, Baby Doe,
Valencienne, Zerlina, Le Fée, and Romilda, and
others. Because of her reputation for learning
difficult music quickly and providing strong
musical and theatrical interpretations, she is
often called upon to sing new music. She has
premiered new operas by Jay Anthony Gach and
James Holland, among others.
Ms. McGrath has sung with companies including
San Francisco Opera, Utah Opera, Des Moines
Metro Opera, American Lyric Theater, Ash Lawn
Opera, Opera North, Bronx Opera, Opera New
England, and Bangkok Opera. She made her Lincoln
Center debut in 2006 with the Little Orchestra
Society of New York.
Ms. McGrath currently
resides in Florida, but she continues to commute
between New York and St. Petersburg. She studies
voice with Ruth Golden and acting with Marc
Verzatt, and works with a number of talented
coaches in New York and Florida.b
A graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and
Boston Conservatory, Ms. McGrath was a studio
artist with Utah Opera and served
apprenticeships at Opera North and Des Moines
Metro Opera before launching her professional
career.
