Biography – Colleen McGrath, Soprano
American soprano Colleen McGrath has been called “an ominously
alluring and vocally superb Queen of the Night” – a
role she has performed many times. This summer she returns to Ashlawn
Opera to sing the charming Valencienne in Lehar’s The
Merry Widow. Earlier this year, she made her Lincoln Center debut in
concerts with the Little Orchestra Society of New York.
The list of companies with which she has
appeared includes San Francisco Opera, Utah Opera, Ashlawn Opera,
Bronx Opera, Opera New England, and Bangkok Opera. In addition
to the Queen of the Night and Valencienne, she has sung the roles
of Zerlina, Cunegonde, Baby Doe, Gilda, Nanette, Le Fee, Euridice,
Berta, and Romilda, among others. A graduate of Carnegie Mellon
and Boston Conservatory, she was a studio artist with Utah Opera,
served apprenticeships at Opera North and Des Moines Metro Opera,
and was a finalist in Classical Productions, Connecticut Opera,
and Vocal Gymnastics competitions.
